NEWS JUNE 2007 21/06/07 The first round of the Human Cronulla Shark Island Challenge ran today in 4 foot conditions. Winds were offshore for most of the day tending southerly for the last few heats.
Kingy [above] , Nick O [below], and Novy progressed through to the Quarter Finals stage of the event. Kingy and Nick O both killed it in their heats revelling in the best of the conditions. Novy was unlucky and only just scraped through after the wind turned onshore halfway through his heat.
Other stand outs during the day were Cronulla local's John Showell and Dave Ballard, Hawaiian brothers Jeff and Dave Hubbard and Mike Stewart, Dave Winchester and Ben Player, Toby Player, Dallas Singer, South African Mark McCarthy, Brad Jackson, Frenchy Pierre Luis - Costes, and Sam Bennett who all advance to the Quarter Finals come the next contestable day. Click this for the complete CSIC Quarter Finals draw and stay tuned for more news and updates as they come to hand. 20/06/07 It's evidence undeniable. The King is a certain favourite to claim the Human CSIC crown for 2007. Just take a look at his past results for proof. He has placed in the top four in every CSIC since 2000! If that's not reason enough to put your money on him, check out the above sequence. Kingy was in fine form during the Super Sessions at The Island over the past few days and as always, the Two Times World Champion is the man to beat. Another day on hold. CSIC Update by
Contest Director, Mark Fordham. “The swell today is quite big,
6-8 foot Island bombs that seem to be washing through, and a strong
southerly swell with a S - SW wind at around 10 - 15 knots.
Little Mitch Woodland [above] has briefly plonked himself back down in his old stomping ground of Nelson Bay, NSW. He reports scoring a bunch of fun days at his beloved Boxy. He will return to
WA next week in preparation for a few trips with the "There's No
I" crew over the next couple of months. 19/06/07 Human CSIC On Hold. "With an onslaught of Southerly lows hitting the East Coast, we can afford to be a bit choosey this early in the waiting period," says Contest Director Mark Fordham. "The Island was definitley surfable yesterday, but with a cross shore wind and rain affected conditions, we thought it best to wait for some gold. Obviously today has dropped as predicted and prevailing S - SW winds are still continuing. "Tomorrow
we are predicting stormy seas with huge swell and very strong winds
out of the S - SE. We can safely assume Wednesday is not on, but
we are not ruling it out. So far Thursday is the day - S - SE swell
6-8ft with W - WSW winds!"
Nick O [above] and Novy advanced through The Trials and now join Kingy in the CSIC Main Event. All three have been hanging in Cronulla and making the most of the waves on offer over the past few days. Mr. Ormerod opted to stay put in the 'Nulla following The Trials and his decision paid off with a few fun sessions on the South Coast. Novy did the complete opposite, shooting up and down the coast with his "There's No I" buddies. They were rewarded with some tasty wedges on the Far North Coast. Just like the majority of the Newcastle / Hunter region, Mitch Woodland got caught up in the nasty weather that hit the area during the weekend of the CSIC Trials. “I surfed on Friday in the Second Round [of The Trials], got 2nd in that heat and made it into the Third Round. Then I was meant to be the first heat on Saturday, but it got cancelled! The waves at home were pumping, so Josh [Casey] Lee [Szczepanski], [Tim] Fowler and I drove back to surf it. That night was when the weather went bad again so I was three hours away from Sydney, meant to be the first heat on Sunday and I couldn’t get there! It was literally a nightmare [Laughs].” << BACK © 2007 UNITE. Clothing Company |
